Hello Grade 5's and parents,
This week we will be focusing on fractions, particularly learning how to identify equivalent fractions. Equivalent fractions are fractions that have the same value or represent the same part of an object. If a pie is cut into two pieces, each piece is also one-half of the pie. If a pie is cut into 4 pieces, then two pieces represent the same amount of pie that 1/2 did. We say that 1/2 is equivalent to 2/4.
Assignment #2
Heather helps coach a team of 12 basketball players. At halftime, the head coach asked her to get one piece of fruit for each player. She had to get apples for 1/2 of the players, oranges for 1/3 of the players and pears for the rest.
What number of each fruit should Heather bring to the players?
